Carolina PC Pros provides home customers with affordable services to solve common (and some not so common)
problems.
Spyware and adware have become all too common problems for computer users. Your system gets slower and slower, and
may not even start up. When you try to go to a web page, you end up somewhere you didn't ask to go, or get "404 - Page Not
Found" errors. You may also experience numerous pop-up windows. This is the result of Adware (programs that
place ads on your PC), and spyware (programs that track you moves online, or worse, change your system's
behavior). We can remove adware and spyware and provide you with the tools to remove it, and to
keep it off of your system.
Viruses and trojans are, unfortunately, a fact of life for computer users. We strongly recommend that
you purchase an anti-virus program and keep it updated. If your machine has been infected with one or more
computer viruses, we will remove the viruses from your system and attempt to repair damaged files. (Due to
the nature of viruses, data loss is possible!). We can install a free, limited time, trial version of an
anti-virus program if you do not have a current package installed.
If you purchased or are planning on purchasing a new PC, we can help you set
up the new system and copy or move your documents, music, and photos from
your old PC.
This service is a general check of PC health. PCs tend to slow down and become unstable over time. Programs create
lots of temporary files and then don't delete them. When (not if) Windows crashes, it often leaves things in a
mess. We will find and delete temporary files, scan for viruses, and scan and defragment the hard disk.
If you bought almost any PC add-on and are having problems installing it or making it work, call us.
We will install the add-on, along with any software needed to make it work. We have experience with
DVD-R/RW drives, internal and external hard drives, video cards, sound cards, printers, scanners,
digital cameras, PDA connectivity, iPods, Blackberry devices, and more.
We can install and configure software for you or provide assistance with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint, Outlook, Access) as well as other application packages.
We will install, configure, and troubleshoot your home network. We can set up your systems
to share files, printers, and your Internet connection . We have experience with cable modems, DSL
modems, Cable/DSL routers, print servers, hubs, and switches.
Wireless networking provides all of the benefits of a hard-wired network without having to pull the
cables. It works like a cordless phone for your data. A wireless network can allow you to share
your files, printers, and Internet connection between your computers. By using a wireless connection
with a laptop, you become truly mobile. Wireless networks may be your only alternative in apartments
and other properties where you may be prohibited from running any cables at all. We can install
wireless access points in your home, and install and configure wireless clients in your
desktop or laptop PCs.
We can set up firewall software to help protect your systems. A firewall is a program that blocks
unauthorized computers from accessing your computer and its data. This is especially important for
people using cable or DSL modems. A firewall is the first line of defense against people trying to
break into your computer.
If you have a wireless network, your data may be at risk. Generally, when you purchase wireless
network equipment, it is configured to broadcast identification information and to transmit your
data without any security enabled. Other wireless equipment users may be able to easily connect
to your shared files, printers, or even your Internet connection. We will disable unneeded broadcasts,
disable access to your network except from your authorized machines, and turn on data encryption,
which scrambles the data while it is being transmitted. These steps go a long way towards keeping
hackers out of your computers.
We can help you create a backup strategy to keep your data safe. We can install a DVD-R or
other storage devices to allow you to make permanent backup copies of your important data.
Alternatively, we can back up your data on site without requiring a hardware purchase on
your part. The resulting backups can be provided to you on CD or DVD.
Quoted services are available for the services described below. In the event that the scope of the service
changes, the job will be requoted, or you can elect to only have the quoted service performed. The minimum
quote for any on-site services will be the same as the one-hour rate ($70).
We can recover data from digital camera media cards, USB memory 'keys', hard disk drives, and CD or
DVD media. If you have photos or documents that you think are lost, we may be able to recover them!
If you have accidently deleted a photo from your camera's memory card, or lost the entire contents of
a memory card, it is possible to recover those photos! Don't lose those one of a kind pictures!
Based on your design or one of our sample layouts, we can get your message out on the Internet.
